For a person the voice is a separate instrument which is called to be taught and to evolve. The process of vocal training, a.k.a. the lessons of Vocal and Orthophony, is a unique and wonderful “journey” of getting acquainted with our voice and consequently with ourselves. It is an emotional and creative way out with very important benefits, but above all it is the awareness of how mind and body work harmoniously. The study and the love for singing in general are elements that if combined can in a short time make a beginner student into a good performer, because above all singing is an externalization of emotion, fun and pleasure!
Below are the main points of the AMS vocal courses, starting with breathing, since proper breathing is a primary concern and goal of both vocal and orthophony.

Diaphragmatic breathing

Diaphragmatic breathing is the breath of health and well-being. At the same time, it is the only one that offers intensity, duration, endurance, expression and self-control in the handling of the voice, while at the same time it contributes to the proper functioning of the nervous and digestive system. With diaphragmatic breathing, learners are being taught to control both their breathing and its “journey” through the body, until it becomes a sound, a melody and finally a song.

The placement technique

A voice can be placed on the larynx, pharynx, and mask, cerebral, frontal, or nasal echoes. It can also be mounted in more than one position. In the voice lessons we place the voice on the mask, meaning on the top and front of the palate. This avoids problems such as tired voice, hoarseness, relaxation, buttons, polyps, e..t..c.., and at the same time, gaining control over handling of the voice.

The techniques of modern singing

An integral part of the course is the teaching of modern song techniques such as warms ups, cool downs, staccatos, vocalizes, arpeggios, vibrato, glissando, slides, falsetto, head voice, vocal fry, belting, voice control etc., in order to perfect the performance of singing and also the quality of singing.

Interpretation and kinesiology

Special emphasis is given to the theatrical-kinesiological performance of a piece of music, always according to the story described by its lyrics. Through the interpretation techniques, the student learns to perform the song emotionally and kinesiologically, since there is a role in the lyrics of each song and a movement that expresses the emotions of each role. The aim of the lesson is to combine the vocal part of the song with the acting part of the story it tells, the harmonization of the movement and the communication of this ensemble, always adapted to the abilities and the personal style of each student.

Practical application and recording

Vocal lessons are completed through the AMS music workshops, where students have the opportunity to apply everything they learn in private lessons in a group music ensemble, in the presence of a teacher. In the four active workshops (Rock-Metal, Jazz-Latin, Pop-Rnb and Art-Folk) the students get acquainted with the stage, the use of a microphone, make their own recordings, give concerts in well-known places of the city, thus gaining a professional perspective and experience!
